Default Dry sump/California Speedway question

A couple of questions:

1) Does the 996 have a dry sump?
2) Has anyone driven a 996 on the banked turn at Cal Speedway without a chicane going into the banked turn? Any problems?

The 996 does not have a dry sump. Your 40th has the X51 oiling kit and should do fine at Cal Speedway.

LiveNupe: 1) Does the 996 have a dry sump?

the dip-stick right in the middle of the engine is a dead giveaway. no, it's a wet sump. I had Triumph and Norton motorcycles with dry sumps, and you had to remove the oil tank filler cap and try and peer inside to gauge the level of the oil. Not easy in the dark after a couple of liters of beer.

Aha!!! That's the basis of the mis-information I've received. What's included with the X51 oiling kit??

The MY04 Anniversary model has a modified bulkhead box in the oil pan. The cutouts (arrow 1) have been optimized and the beads (arrow 2) provide greater rigidity.

Are those mods unique to the anniversary model or included in all cars with the X51?

The modified bulkhead box is unique to the Anniversary model. The parts list for the option X51 power-kit does not include an "oiling kit", engine-wise you get new camshafts and cylinder heads. The M96.03 engine does have an improved oil separator but that is standard from MY02+.

When you purchase an X51 kit you have the option of adding the oiling kit for a small additional price.

You wouldn't by chance have a part number? I checked both versions of PET and the Service Technik before I posted and couldn't find anything. Is the additional "oiling kit" the motorsports part?

I'll ask my mechanic and look through the paperwork but it will be a couple of days. They are on the way back from Mid-Ohio with my car. I'm sure it was not from motorsport. As I recall (it was 2 years ago) when we ordered the x51 kit they gave us the option of getting the oiling kit as well.

I was able to find 996-107-243-40 (Assembly: oil pan with partition box) as part of 000-044-100-12, I had the wrong part number for the X51 kit (I still can't find it in PET but the TSB definitely has it listed).

Ignorant question, but what is the difference between sumps?

Thanks
