Post Dyno results from PCA Sarasota dyno day

I ran my car on the dyno yesterday, and netted 248.3HP at the wheels, and 316.2 at the crank. The HP peak was right at redline, with a large spike at 5k and a smaller one at 6k.

The dyno was a Dyno Dynamics, so I don't know how the results compare to the typical dynojet. Anyone know?

Which model/engine?
How did they calculate the crank hp?

The calcuolation implies 21.5% power loss thru the drivetrain. Does anyone know if that's correct? If rw hp is 248 and drivetrain losses are 20%, then engine hp calculates to 310. I'm not sure it matters since what you learned is your baseline for measuring benefit gained from future mods (on the same dyno).AS

No,

21.5 is excessive even w/ Dyno Dynamics.

911 driveline loss is more like 12%, might be 15% at the high.

A tip car will come in at 15% mostly.

Your 248.3 divided by .85 (15% loss) = 292.11

FWIW, we just dynoed a pal of mines 1999 C2 and got 261 @ the wheels on a Dyno Jet (his car has an air intake mod & ImagineAuto.com mufflers).

For comparison I have my dyno sheet right here on my 1995 993: 241.7 @ the wheels. Just muffler mods on it.

At 292 crank your just about right on target.

It's the 3.6/320HP engine with the 6 speed. A '02 3.6 Tip put down 220 at the wheels, and mine only has a couple thousand miles, so I'm hoping for a couple more horses as it loosens up.

Now that I think about it, the 964 manuals were only putting down about 170HP at the wheels, so I think the dyno is pretty conservative.

The dyno has built in software that interpolated your run back to the crank using proprietary technology. It said 316.2 at the crank, so it's pretty close.
