speed yellow or just plain black?
I reserved a carrera 4 convertible my2002, but i still have doubts about the colour.I havent seen speed yellow in reel life but on pics it looks great. The dealer in Holland i talked to says that i is a difficult colour to sell later.Normal black has the disadvantage he told me, to show every scratch and stonechips.Since i live in Turkey my car is prone for stonechips. They advise me the new blackmettalic colour, but i allways find that colour so dull.
Any opinions???

Have you seen the new black metallic in person? I have seen it on a turbo and it looked almost charcoal gray at times, very distinctive. If resale really matters, I'd think there would be a smaller market for a speed yellow car. I've recently passed on a yellow 996TT at a local dealer, absolutely beautiful but certainly very high profile on the street. Good luck!

Resale matters since i can not trade in any car here in turkey, but can only sell it to a foreigner living here or sell it outside of turkey like i just did with my boxster. The advantage is that i can buy the car at taxfreeprices wich is much cheaper.
I only saw the new colour met.black on a paper swatch at a dealer.

Yves,
I had the same problem. When I bought my 996 the dealer didn't have a single one on the lot. I chose Vesuvious Grey from a swatch. Probably wouldn't choose it again.
Anyway, my buddy has a speed yellow 996 and it is beautiful. Where as my car always looks dirty, his always looks clean. It really stands out and shows all the lines of the car really well. Personally I think black blends together and just looks like a hole in space, but that is just my opinion. (No offense intended to those who own black colored cars.)
However, I have heard the same thing about the resale value. I also heard that if you don't garage or cover a speed yellow car the color will change faster than others.

When I picked up my white 993 a car detailer on the porsche lot told me that white and yellow have the strongest pigment and they will last longer and chip less than other colours such as burgandy, blue etc.. I also remember reading the same thing in a porsche magazine a while ago. Also metallic paints tend to be harder to match to the rest of the car if you need to do any touch ups. I came VERY close to buying a racing yellow 993 with the aero-kit package but in the end decided to go with a cruiser rather than something which would show up on every cops radar within 100 miles.
If you are really looking at getting a yellow Cabriolet make sure you have seen one with that color combo before you buy. I love my Cabriolet and also love the 993 coupe in racing yellow but have seen two racing yellow cabs, one a 993 and the other a 996, both with black interior and I personally found that the color didn't go with the Cabriolet style; to me it fit the Couple style much better.

FWIW - this is what my 993 looks like with 98,2xx miles on the clock. Has held its color fine and no fading with the proper upkeep (washing and waxing etc...). Also, not garaged until 2 months ago.
Got this one from the other 996 board and since you were considering a rag top...
I think if you think you might like the speed yellow, then go for it. I love it and it was not my first choice (but my second). I guess the best way to say it is that yes I would buy it again. Also, to hell with resale - get what you want, not what you think it might be worth 5 years from now. All our cars will be worth more than the average car down the road no matter the color and options... MHO of course.
