Default '02 996 ignition problem

Car is 4 years old, starting having ignition problems. Turn the key, nothing happens. HOLD the key all the way to the right and after 15 seconds the engine turns over quick and easy. Dealer put in a new ignition housing, but the problem is starting again.

Could this be a battery issue? Engine turns over normally, but only after waiting for some very long seconds. I sometimes pull the key out, insert again quickly, and it starts up fine. This is very confusing. Recommendations?

I'm having the same problem. Occurs when the car is cold (once started in the morning it works fine all day), making it difficult for the dealer to figure out. The car is going BACK to the dealer this week after we replaced the ignition switch ($200) without fixing the problem. I'm told I may need a new starter motor ($OUCH!!!).
Let me know if anyone has any other (ie. less expensive!) suggestions, please!

Default 99 C2 Ignition Switch Problem

My friend Jim is replacing the entire '99 C2 ignition switch assembly at 68K miles after the prior owner had just the plastic electrical switch replaced (bad again). The problem he is having is transferring the tumbler. He doesn't want to break anything. Does anyone have experience doing this job? Thanks, Chris
