Question My horn stopped functioning.... Need some tech. help - x-post

Went to lay on my horn when some idiot attempted to cut me off in traffic and the freaking thing did not work! When I got home I checked the fuse -it was OK. When I press the horn I hear a clicking noise as I engage and release the horn pad which tells me that the circuit is energized.

The horn beeps when I try to set the alarm with a door open. Is it correct to assume that the alarm horn is the same as the regular horn? If so, then the horn(s) work. I checked beneath the dashboard and I saw some relays but I can't find any documentation as to which (if any) relay is keyed to the horn.

The clicking sound seems to be emanting from the fuse block area - could I have a bad relay? If so, which relay would it be? If not, any ideas or suggestions?

Lots of questions and I would appreciate some help - I would prefer not to have my car torn into by my dealer.

TIA

The alarm horn on a Porsche has been a different unit (for years and years) than the "traffic horn" you tried to use recently.

I assume these two are still different horn units on your model year '03 (Porsche parts book shows separate horns).

The click you hear when you push the horn pad is the relay working like it should... I would guess that your traffic horn unit needs a good cleaning, or maybe just a replacement (or a good whack with a heavy object <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

They are not very technical parts. It should be a simple fix.

I happened to me..

The car has two horn (high and low sounds) so it's pretty strange that both stopped at the same time..

Try to locate the horn inside the front bumper at the passenger side next to the radiator.. If you find it check the wires out... if they're ok, then maybe your horns got bad, if possible try to disconect one of them and wire jump it to see if it works..

If all fails, it's a bitch to remove them and change them. I was able to remove the old ones but I put new ones on the left and right side of the front opening, they hardly can be seen..

Loren has a complete fix document but then you'd have to remove the complete front bumper, i didnt dare!
