warranty and PCA autocross
Hello All:
I have a 2002, 996 which, obviously, is under warranty. I am anxious to participate in some PCA club autocrosses, but reluctant to risk having my warranty denied, if there was ever a warranty issue.
Has anyone had any experience on this issue. Looking for direction, so I don't screw myself
Cheers..... <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I've never heard of any problems with warranty related to AutoX. However, if you crash your car during AutoX, your insurance company may not pay for it: by definition, AutoX is a "timed event" and a "competition of speed". So be careful what you tell your insurance guy!

Porsche has sponsored a lot of track event where Customers bring their own cars. These have never voided warranty coverage. You probably should be careful about missed shifts and over revving, as they can read this off the DME and might use that a evidence of abuse. The manual addresses their expectation of spirited driving, so tracking shouldn't be a problem. In my mind, I draw the line a drag racing which I don't think Porsche's were designed for. So' I'd be a little discreet on the launch at an autocross.

There is nothing on the warranties that say you shouldn't race your car. The only mention of racing in the manual is in the advice on break-in. It states that you should avoid racing during the first 2000 miles. My impression, therefore, is that the Porsche company expects the Porsche owner to race the car that they have made after 2000 miles. Racing after 2000 miles should then be covered by warranty.
But, unfortunately there is always a "but", I would say "Don't ask, don't tell".

Thanks for the responses! I'm glad I asked, I didn't know about the DME recording harsh driving
