Default Broken Convertible Top Cover

All of a sudden today the convertible top cover seems to have broken. When I attempt to open or close the convertible top, the cover only swings open on the drivers side, the passenger side doesn't budge, and then the whole thing just grinds to a halt.

Looks like this is going to be the first extended warranty experience for my reign of ownership. Has anybody experienced this before so I can get a feel for what to expect?

Are you talking about the flaps on either side?

If so feel around and see if it's getting caught up on something.

It's not the flaps, the whole "U" shaped hard cover on the passenger side won't swing up and back. The drivers side goes up and back and then the whole thing just grinds to a halt because the other side won't budge. Sometimes I can work it free and manually lift the broken side up which allows the top operation to complete. From what I can tell, nothing is stuck, because the problem persists after top goes through and entire open and close cycle. It's like the lever which is supposed to lift the passenger side has crapped out.

the actuator on the side flaps (in black or color of your top) may be broken.

Are you referring to the clamshell? .......The piece that painted in exterior body color and extends away from the car to allow the top to be stored partly under it.

That's it. It's referred to as the "convertible top cover" in the manual. I was parked and pressed the button to raise the roof and the clamshell extended away all cockeyed.

Problem solved. After tinkering around I figured out that the pin which translates the motion of the actuator to the lever arm which raises the clamshell on the passenger side had come loose and popped out (see photos). Simply had to stick it back in. It seemed to be held in place only by friction. Thanks everybody.

Glad you got it resolved. I don't have a cab, but just make sure that the lever arm did not get bent during the non-operable period.
