Best dealer for repairs in Los Angeles- some wierd noises : (
Just wondering if anyone had any opinions about the most professional/knowledgable dealer in Los Angeles. I hear Long Beach is good. How about Beverly Hills, Steve Taub or Mckenna?
I need to bring my auto in for a wierd "clucking" noise that I hear when I go over a bump on just the driver side. It seems like its coming from the driver/middle of the car, and also the driver rear side. I brought it once to a dealer already and they couldn't fix it.
Also I guess while I'm on the topic, I hear a high pitch sound coming from the engine when I first start it up in the morning. It goes away after about 1 min. Does that have anything to do with my aero kit? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, can't suggest a dealer (I live in Northern Calif) but here are some possibilities...
The noise sounds pretty consistent with a loose rear sway bar. Hopefully, just tightening and no lost bolts
The whine at start up could be a problem with the engine compartment purge fan installation (I am assuming you just had you aerokit installed from your message)... OR more likely it could be the air pump. The air pump runs for emission reasons at startup and sometimes when you are idling. Shouldn't be a loud whine tho, should sound like a fan kicking on and off.

Loren,
Thanks for the help. Only problem is, with the sway bar, unless the dealership mechanics are complete monkeys (which may be possible), how could they miss that? Perhpaps the mechanic couldn't make the sound occur so he forgot to check, but I don't think that is likely considering I told them about it.
As for the high pitch sound, it dosen't sound like a fan, it almost sounds like a low volume, but high frequency warning sound - kinda like when trucks back up, but constant. Thanks again!

Sidra,
The whining noise is a normal part of startup as Loren stated.
As far as dealer recommendations, Newport Auto Center - Porsche has always taken very good care of me. As for Russ Mann in Porsche service. I've heard thru reputation that Circle Imports in Long Beach also has a very good service dept. Good Luck with your 'chickens'.

Hmm... ok then. I guess that settles it. Thanks for the info. As for the chickens, hopefully the only ones I'll find will be hot chicks! Ha ha... sorry couldn't help myself.

Ah Sidra, I am here to your rescue. I suffered recently from the mysterious clunking noise from the car. Occurred on the right side on an unloaded turn. In other words, when I turned right, went over a bump (or bimp according to Clouseau) and unloaded the suspension, I heard a sharp metallic noise.
So, first we tightened a loose sway bar, no help. Then the dealer decided that the entire right front strut needed to be replaced. (good news for me as Gert at Carnewal sent the ROW M030 kit that I had installed. Got one side free and the four wheel alignment.)
The noise did not go away. So last time it was in THEY FIXED IT. Go figure. It was the sunroof track snapping in place when the car twisted going over a bump. So have your dealer look at that possibility. Fixed mine.

I've experienced a couple of noises/vibrations too. The first one presents itself in the steering wheel and column, particularly when turning left slowly, and going over bumps. Something feels like it's shaking. (The other noise happens when the car's warming up, lasts for a few minutes. It's a pinging noise like the expansion of a pipe or plastic.)
I brought the car in for service at Beverly Hills Porsche. They said the sway bars were loose. Surprising for a car with only 2,000 miles. Nonetheless, neither problem was corrected. I'm bringing the car back in tomorrow.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Strshp, I'm curious, my noise sounds like it's definetly coming from the bottom of my car. I take it this is not the same type of problem? Perhaps there is something I don't know about sunroofs?

My noise sounded as though it was coming from the top of the right front strut. A sharp metallic snap. I truly thought that it was suspension related which is why I was not surprised when they went for sway bar and then strut. Hard to describe on the net. Have them check it any way. Also, Gert at Carnewal has a service bulletin that relates to noises like you are experiencing. Try www.carnewal.com and see if Gert can help.

There was no discussion forum, just a very nice guy, Gert on the other end. He sometimes monitors this channel. Just drop him an email and he should be able to give you the same service bulletin reference he gave to me. If I hadn't turned it over to the shop and not gotten it back, I could have given you the number myself.
Good luck.
