Yes, it's a very short throw of air breathing in the engine.. PFFFF brawwwwwwww, PFFFFff brawwwwww... more like it!
As a matter of fact i remember when i was more of a kid, I used to dismantle the air filter in my cars to clean the injectors (320-323i-etc..). A very fast pull on the accelarator cable would trigger the same noise as well as a deep cruel grin on my face! (that was the time i starting evolving my love to mechanical equipments!)
I dont know really why this noise is so obvious on the 996's WITH the air filter in place.. but i like it! Anyway silver, do have your car checked just for the benefit of the doubt..
