Post Rough Start

I had my 30k service done and told the service manager that engine light keeps coming on! So, they took a look and told me the reason is the BME filter. The oil on the filter tends to get on the sensor and caused the engine light to go on.

So, I got home and decided to put back the original airbox and filter. After few miles the engine light is back on and the start is very rough. It seems like the computer is confused with the original airbox and filter.

Anyone got any ideas how to clear this problem out?

Also, I did noticed that with the original airbox, the engine doesnt rav as fast and feels a bit slower.

Hey Bloke-sounds like a contaminated MAF sensor(oils from BMC onto sensor)-more then likely needs replacement but don't know how much. Once replaced should do fine. Regards. Mike

Sometimes it takes the computer a little while to relearn, maybe 30-50 miles.

Take your BMC filter and wrap it in newspaper overnight. The newspaper should adsorb the excess oil. BTW... you didn't oil the filter before you put it in did you?

I have had no problems with my BMC filter.

Loren,

I havent put on any extra oil. I had the fabspeed airbox and the filter for about 6months. I started to have this engine light problem about a month ago and I decided to put the original parts back on. So, I guess the sensor is bad or the computer is confused.

Going back to the dealer next week for a new filter and have it check out again.

Unplug your battery and leave it for a half hour or so. Then the DME will relearn your set up.

Greg,

Thanks try it about three times. Everytime, I disconnect and reconnect. The engine light comes back sooner and sooner. I think the sensor needs to be cleaned or replaced.
