We went to have dinner with some friends last night and took the pcar. My buddy was going nuts over my car, called his neighbors over to look at it and in his enthusiasm to show it off, pushed (hard) on the engine lid release button instead of pulling up. The button dissapeared into the trim panel . After the first few seconds of wanting to kill him, I just knew that I'd find a quick fix on this board or on renntech; besides he looked like he was going to throw up.
Sure enough there were very clear instructions on Renntech
not the same mechanism since mine is electric vs mechanical, but removal of the trim is pretty much the same with only 2 hex bolts on mine vs 3 on the older style. Thanks Loren!
Took all of 15 mins to take it apart and snap the switch back into position. Luckily none of the little tabs were damaged so no costs other than he'll owe me a beer next time.
I'm now thinking of making up a little plaque (using the right Porsche fonts) with either an icon or text indicating to pull not push on the switch so that it never happens again. Maybe someone else has already made one?
maybe you should not have "friends" touching you car to show it off.....just tell them (like with little children) to sit in the (PASSENGER) seat, buckle up, be quiet and listen to the music coming from the rear!
Glad it was easy to fix...I have a 99 996 and mine doesn't have an electronic release, so if anyone pushes on it nothing happens....but a sore thumb after a while I guess.

All I can think of when I read this is the Larson Far Side cartoon with the kid trying to get into the school for the gifted (he's pushing and the sign says pull I think)
