Noticed the other week that my clutch pedal is behaving oddly and was hoping someone here might know what's the prob.
When I release the clutch under braking it seems to stick at the very top of it's travel then release and knock the sole of my foot as I'm stepping off it, all happens in a split second and it's probably only moving 10mm or so. Is the clutch on the way out? Does the hydraulic fluid need replacing? BTW it's a 1999 996 C2 with 30k miles on it. Also am going to get the brake fluid replaced soon.
Cheers

MY99 as you may well know, have or had numerous problems. Clutch slave cylinders were one of many.Don't waste time-get it replaced, when it goes completely you'll be stranded. I didn't need to address the problem with my car--the transmission failed first! With the new trans came a new slave cylinder.

Has neone on this board had a clutch slave cylinder problem-never heard of it cept on the 993 board? Do you have aftermarket aluminum pedals because they can possibly stick to carpet and cause it to stick? I had RUF pedals put in and did that and it was the pedal screw catching the floormat. No clutch slave problems for me and there are no TSB's for the clutch slave cylinder.
But there have been a number of TSBs and clutch spring upgrades. The design has changed twice so if you have a very early car there is likely an upgraded spring, pedal modification and some lubrication that needs to be done.

My first post...
Anyway, just had this same problem and had entire clutch replaced. Got the car back today, and all I can say is WOW! Solved the problem and basically got a new car!

i had some strangle problems with my my 99 c4. the clutch pedal would interfere with the brake pedal and also the accelerator (slightly). it was very noticeable when braking & changing gear. the brake pedal would take on a totally different feel, but once i had braked it returned to'normal'. the dealer did a lot of work on it, but to no avail. then one night after taking a tight right hander and stopping for the lights my brake pedal felt like it wasn't going to work. so i used excessive force, and it made a loud bang, it worked (stopped me), and i never had the strange pedal problem again. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />
