Post Targa anyone?

It seems that the 996 Targa's are not selling well. I personally like the targa's looks compared to the cab and also like the limited production.

Even new Targa's on Ebay never seem to meet the reserve.

Can anyone shed some light on this.

TIA

Thanks Willard. But even the new ones? Thought the leaks, etc. would have been thoroughly worked out with the 996 targas.

The new Targas are not "known" to squeak and leak. In fact, one of the biggest benefits of the Targa over the Cab is that they are based on the coupe and are much tighter and don't have the cowl shake and flexing that the Cab does (though certainly the 996 Cabs are much better than previous versions).

I think most people are either convertible people or they're not. If they want a true open-air experience, they will go for a Cab, and that's certainly a reasonable choice. I have a nice Cab of another marque, however, and didn't want another. I find that I seldom want to drive the Cab now. I like the fact that I can crank open the top on the fly when the weather's nice, and yet close up tight (again on the fly) when I get to the highway or if the weather changes. The other thing I have found I really enjoy is the glass roof. It's nice to have the sky view even when everything is closed up tight.

I was looking through a Porsche history book the other day and noticed that in previous generations Cabs always outsold Targas by a wide margin. So maybe somethings never change. Interestingly, I've found that the Targa is a real favorite of many people in the business. I really like something about almost every 996 variant, but I'm extremely happy with my decision to go with a Targa.

CAndrew,

Thanks for the reply. It seems like the targa would be perfect for me as well since I am not a big fan of cabs but like the open feeling of a glass roof (especially one the size of the targa).
