can u locate where the stomp is coming from? back, rear? try to shake the car yourself in all directions to see if it appears. if it does let a child follow the sound as you do it.. (guess i got hooked up to child labour here in nigeria!)

you ought to open the front bonnet and check for your spare tyre that's it's right in position.

check your suspension, each side, by putting your weight on the fenders and releasing.. does sound occur?

also you can go under the car, check that all the plastic covers are very tight in position.

check the exhausts by trying to shake them very hard, do they produce the same sound?

Have you tried to see whether the sound occurs when you are on gear or just on neutral? Is your car tip or manual.. a thump can occur also from the tranny while your are stopping and the engine changes from compression to traction as your speed reduces to zero (around the 1,000rpm)..

manual trans...i have tried to locate sound by coasting in neutral to about 20mph, then braking moderately hard. sound as if the wing (or something simliar) rises and falls upon completion of a stop. or that the rear suspension thumps as weight trasnfers back onto it at a stop.

Usually such sounds are more bushing related.. Just go thru the checklist of moveable parts and bushing-fixed parts in the car..

you have to give us more details roberts..

waz996, now that was funny. but i keep the guage in the glove box. since the car is 6 mos old i'll let a dealer start checking things...thought there might be a more obvious source of the sound.
