Red face Faults on Delivery - Here's Mine - What's Yours?

German build quality? How's this for starters... (996 C2 Cab)

Drive shunt when disengaing first
Cabriolet roof creaks over passenger window
Rear shelf creaks with hood up
Wiper blade leaves 5" gap
Washers aimed incorrectly
CD autochanger not working
Annoying mystery rattle from dashboard

I've had Alfa Romeos with fewer deivery issues.

Sounds like your dealer has some work to do, as it appears they did not do your predelivery inspection/adjustments.
I have a 1999 996 Cab and have had only one of the problems you mentioned (rattle). You might want to check the smoked lenses close to the light or the oval shaped inserts by the central locking mechanism for the top, these both have a propensity to rattle.

Another source for the rattle is the windshield. A problem on late 993's and early 996s that requires the glass to be re-glued. Haven't seen much posted about this with the more recent 996s though, so may have been attended to at assembly after the first model year.

Unhappy

Drive Shunt! Finally I have a name for that mother-$%#@ sound! For me it doesn't only happen when I'm disengaging first but also in the higher gears it's just harder to hear as the speed increases. Just to be sure, my symptoms are a "bouncing" deep CLUNK that occurs when I depress the clutch and the revs can immediatly drop. Some instances when this occurs are:
  • When I shift from first to second.
  • If I'm coasting in first and clutch in to come to a stop with the revs above idle.
  • If I've yet to fully release the clutch and then fully deperess it with the revs above idle (when creaping in traffic).

What's the fix for this?! Who's *** do I have to whup to get a solution? So far my dealer (Mark Motors of Ottawa) has been entirely unresponsive.

Please anybody who has a clue let me know. Thanks,
