Question Possible to disable pause before restarting??

Car: 1999 996

When cold, have to wait about 5 seconds after turning key before engaging clutch and starting engine.
However, have had situations in which engine was stalled (operator error ) in an intersection, or at the top of a hill, when it is dangerous to have to turn key to left, wait 5 seconds, depress clutch, and then, and only then turn key to re-start engine.

Any way to disable the requirement of waiting 5 seconds before restarting engine?? TIA for advice.

I don't get it. Why would you have to wait 5s ?

Turning key to the off position and then to start will start the car immediately.

That 5s is nothing but the timer retrieving your oil level. That's all. But, very important to know where you oil level is BEFORE you start. If you stall it, then just turn key back to the far left (off position) then restart.

Thanks to all - after reading answers, found the answer - I was not used to depressing the clutch pedal ALL the way down (into the carpet); with my 356, this is not needed, just the clutch until it engages, then restart. Did not find out about the interlock "feature" of the 996 until your posts, and RTFM! BTW, why is the interlock feature needed at all??

Lawyers and liability limitation. Thats why the interlock "feature" is there. Its designed so that you cannot start the car in gear with the clutch engaged thereby allowing the car to jerk forward.
