30k service
#16
There's more to go on this yet.
Dealers are under pressure from several sources; independents, diy owners and internet parts shops. Their cost of doing business like equipment, training, cost of labor (there is a shortage of skilled technicians, so good techs want top dollar) and property are all rising.
Porsches now need less maintenance than the old SC.
The billable hours required to make the business a viable proposition are increasing and that requires the dealer to either a) increase the vehicle park (sell more cars and retain more customers) or b) increase labor rates and shop charges. With Porsche sales steady and cars going out of warranty and then being serviced by independents the dealer is left with increasing labor rates and shop charges.
That situation is not going to change. Until Porsche or the selling dealer makes scheduled maintenance part of the vehicle price, dealer service charges are going to be where they are now.

When I had my 30 K, and did it a'lacart. There is a lot of fluff built into the check list. I had the oil, brake fluid, pollen filter, and plugs changed, and the hand brake adjusted. I had changed the air filter on my own previously. Came in at $600 with parts, labor and taxes. Perry

I had the 30k service at my second year interval (about 25k miles). Here's the text from the dealer. Mine was around $1k.
- check and inspect polyrib belt.
- visual inspection of underside of vehicle and underbody paneling.
- check coolant hoses.
- check/ refill coolant.
- replace pollen filter.
- inspection of fuel system.
- check/ fill power steering system.
- check/ adjust parking brake.
- visual inspection of brakes and brake wear.
- check and refill brake fluid.
- check rest of brake system (lines).
- check clutch and amount of free play.
- check position and operation of throttle.
- check steering gear.
- check tie rod ends.
- check axle joints.
- check tightness of front and rear suspension adjustment points.
- inspect drive shafts.
- check exhaust system.
- check condition and pressure of all tires and spare.
- check adjustment and operation of trunk and door locks.
- check operation and condition of seatbelts.
- check operation and alignment of lights.
- check horn.
- check fluid level and alignment of windsheild and light washers.
- check all indicators and warning lights.
- changed spark plugs.
- ran diags on engine.
- changed air filter.
In addition, since it was 2 years they
- changed brake fluid.
- changed oil.
My perspective:
A) all companies have service checks that are a high percentage of checking and a lower percentage of replacing.
B) Porsche service is more expensive that most other marques.

Sorry Guys
For those of us who are not techies - these dealer prices come with the territory. And we all knew what we were getting into. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
