Question HELP - Removing Cassette Holder

I'm new to this board and hope that some one out there has experience removing the cassette holder from the sub-console below the radio. My new (used) 996 came with an in-dash AM/FM/CD and the aforementioned cassette holder. Rather useless in my opinion! Any way, I want to safely remove it to make way for the OEM CD holder. I can see that the CD holder is a snap (literally) to install if I can just get that unusable cassette holder out. HELP please! landvw@pacbell.net

Very simple... pop all of the cassette holders open and grab all of them together with both hands. One firm pull and the whole assembly will pop out. There are no screws, clips or anything holding it in.

I want to replace my cassette holders with the empty storage bin, but Porsche charges $45 for it. Does anyone know where I can get one cheaper?

Are there different part numbers if you want the bin where the CD storage was, as opposed to having bin on the bottom?

I would guess yes, as they seem to be differently sized. The part # I want is 996-552-253-01-01C (I think).

Check with Sunset Porsche in Oregon (I think they sponsor this site) I recall paying about $20 for the empty tray.
