Late 99 996
I have recently decided to purchase a 99 996 and have noticed that some 99's have the clear head and tail lights while some have the amber. Does anyone know the manufacture dates that these changes were made? Also if this is true, are there any other advantages to buying a late 99 like the e-throttle or the 300 hp engine? Thanks

I have a late 99, with the clear lens, and the better radio but none of the 99's came with e gas. That was 2000 on. My car has a build date of 9/98. I believe the new run began with September builds. As for 300 hp..I'm kind of happy with the 296 listed <g>

I have a 1999 996 C2. I just had the motor replaced - though not for warranty issues.
I hated the car with the old motor. The new motor i have installed is much better, stronger, smoother, and it is a joy to drive now.
The old motor was way down on power, and noisier.
If I were u i would steer cleer of the 99's. The hp ratings were very inconsistent. The new motor i have still has a mechanical throttle but it is much more responsive.

Early '99s were actually '98s in ROW, and they had yellow blinker lenses. "Real" '99s everywhere had clear lenses. The later '99s built after approx. March 1999 had fewer problems than earlier cars (seatbelt buckles / warning light, radio, coolant tank).
I have a late '99 and love it, except for the interior styling, cheap plastic, and no glove box.
