Default Different tire brands front & rear?

Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it under search.

I need new rear tires on my C4S (fronts have plenty of tread left) but I was thinking of moving away from the pirellis to Michelin PS2's. Any negatives to running different brands front and rear until the fronts wear out and I get front PS2's?

thanks

I think it's recommended by P to have all the same brand as well as the "N" rating. This is coming from a guy that didn't buy the "N" rated version.

More important on a C4S, otherwise different brands on the back and front wouldn't cause any issues.

Check out the manufacter's specs relating to actual diameter. What's it for a PS2 and what is it for your Pirelli's mounted on the same width rim? If it's a big difference (more than tire wear) then it's probably not a great idea for the AWD.

I went the cheap route last time and replaced the fronts to kumoh as I was planning on having all four kumoh very soon. The pzeros had life left in the rear so I drove them until ready for replacement. I didn't notice much difference to all four kumohs now. The cheaper side of me took hold and I just didn't want to throw away the rear tires for matching sake. No harm ever came of it so I'd say go for it.

I really think unless you're driving your car at the limit (and spare me the limit talk if you have to make an evasive maneuvre in an emergency high speed turn), different sets of fronts and rears shouldn't be that big a deal. Now, Dell, before you chime in and to be fair, I'd never do it.

So much for my credibility, eh?

Even if they start at the same "diameter" the front and rear tires will not stay that way for long as the rears wear out twice as fast as the fronts.......

I have mixed tire brands, several times, and have seen no effect. I am not advising you to do it, I am just reporting my experiences.

Ideally you want the same tire make and model all the way around, but it won't hurt to mix it up for a little while. I ran michelin front and pirelli rear for 12 months with no problems.

Because my front and rears wear out at different times I contemplated getting S02-A's on the fronts then when the Pilot Sport on the rears wore out, I would replace them with the S02's... in the end I *****'d out and just ordered the PS.

I have pirelli's in the front and Michelins in the back, but don't have a c4......I don't think the car knows the difference! as long as all tires are in good condition.....you might feel the difference in driving, but only when cornering hard..or tracking like Dell does...don't forget races are won on tires!!

reason that my tires are different front and rear...I had the P for 1 week and got a 6 inch screw in my rear tire......so I had to replace both, because different tires in the back didn't seem like a good plan...but the front tires were fine.....and I know I am going to change them to 19" (with rims of course!) very soon..probably black rims!

I have a different tire on all 4 corners. Is that bad?

That's actually the best way to do it! Now the computer has no idea what corner is doing what

Would love to see that combo on the track!

I didn't think it would be a problem. I put the left front tire on the left front, the right front tire on the right front, and so on. No one corner has the same tire as another corner.

Gotcha Dell.
