Default Mix-Match MKI & MKII Aero Parts?

For pre-facelifted 996s, what are your thoughts about mixing MKI & MKII aero parts? For example, MKI front bumper with MKII side skirts? I prefer the looks of the MKII side skirts, so I'm wondering if this is a mod faux-pas if the parts aren't from the same kit. I've seen some such examples in the sale ads, but has anyone on this forum done this?

TIA,
Charlie

evo 333 has MKII skirts with the MKII wing on his pre face lift car and I think it looks great.

But those parts are still from the same kit -- MKII. In other words, he didn't mix an MKII wing with MKI skirts.

^ but the front bumper, which can be argued to be the main focal point of the aerokit, would be a Mk1 style. so with Mk1 style front, and MK2 sides and rear, yes his car does look stunning, and i don't believe he has reported any instability issues, but i'll let him chime in on that.

To each his own my man, to each his own......

Of course you're not going to get the full aero dynamics if you had kept it together.....

If I recall correctly, however, evo_333 has a Cargraphic front lip and not a full MKI front bumper. I guess my original question pertains more so to the aesthetics than aerodynamics. Is coupling an MKI front bumper with MKII skirts a styling no-no, or am I worrying too much and need a nap?

I think you need a nap ZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

It will be fine and don't worry none of your rennlist bretheren will report your transgression to Stutgart. (I wish there was a spell check in here!)

I think you answered your own question, yes you can physically do it but you're probably better off in the long run with the proper kit. I can't imagine any AD or resale advantage to having such a setup.

Hey guys,

That is correct, I have a Cargraphic front and aero II sides and aero II cf wing... I don't notice any instability at higher speeds with the addition of the body parts. In fact, I'm pretty sure it has gotten better. I was driving my buddies 40th anny the past weekend and it felt more unstable than my car... Go figure

If you are questioning looks, do a search on Kirby's car (itzkirb)... He has the aero II front and aero I sides

The MkI ones have the same lines that the MkI front has. I would NOT mix them. MkII has a harder creased line that IMHO would not look good together (front and sides).

I was thinking the same exact thing... From what I've heard, 969 went under

The hot rod shop business, be it porsche or whatever, is a little harsh. Not sure what happened to 969. It's all about treating the customers right (you know we are always right). Esp relevant in the internet explosion where bad news travels fast.

^ well put.

Reminds me of that ever so popular thread on the BMW owner group which lead to the creation of www.savagebmwsucks.com. as i recall, savage BMW's junior tech wrote off a customer's M3 while ripping it on an inspection test. Wouldn't pay out on it. Long court battle and the guy got some cash, and bought a 996TT with a huge decal on the side that said www.savagebmwsucks.com

PWNED.
