Post Larger Tyres

Currently I have 225/40 ZR 18 fitted on the front, on Sport Design wheels - 7.5 50 is marked on the wheel and on the rear I have 265/35 ZR 18 with 10 65 marked on the wheel. I assume the 7.5 and 10 represent the width of the wheel. I would like to increase the size of the rear tyres, but I was informed by one dealer it is not possible, but he didn't seem confident. Looking at the C4S spec. it would appear they are working on a 11J which allows fitting of a 295/30 as standard. I would like to go for a 285/30 or 285/35 and if it is possible are there are foreseen problems ? Thanks again everyone in advance.

I, with no problem at all fitted 285/30 tires on the rear of my 2001 C2. There were more posts on this a while back. You may want to search the archives.

Why? You would get increased understeer, which may not be desirable.

Wake, I have the same size wheels in the Porsche Turbo Look (7.5x18 front, 10x18 rear). It seems most people who want to increase the tire size do what Porsche did for the Carrera 2 coupe with 18" wheels in 2002: Change the front wheel to an 8x18 but with the same 225/40 tire and put the 285/30 on the rear 10x18 rim. Apparently, making the front rim just a half inch wider with the same tire keeps the balance with the wider rear tires.

Kerry exactly! I've got a set of wheels and tires on the way from TireRack for my 2001 C2 Cab. SSR GT3 wheels: 18x8 and 18x10 with S-03 tires: 225/40 and 285/30. These will be replacing my stock 17" setup.

Thanks Kerry,
I have been to my OPD today, regarding other items and viewed a new 2002/3 model and yes they are working with 285/30 on the rear with 10x18 wheels, but with 8x18 wheels on the front but with the same 225/40 tyre on the front. The extra wheel width on the front clearly helps. I have another posting about my Sport Design wheels, they have some corrosion at the rear - at some stage it looks like I will be changing them. Dispite the 6,000 miles. I can review it then.

Thanks guys for your help.

Colin

Guys,

DO you know if that same combination 8X18 225 and 10X18 285's would fit on a 99 Cab?

Thinking about upgrading from the 17s I currently have.
Is there an "offset" problem and if so, what is offset?

THanks,

Walt
