03 996 C4S Vs. 03 MB CL55 AMG
Hello,
I have always been a MB owner and have not experienced a Porsche yet! Therefore I am thinking of stepping out of MB and trying something new. I am considering getting a preowned 03 911 C4S or 03 Cl55 AMG. What are your thoughts?? What the appx 0-60 for the C4S??
Thanks

C4S can do 0-60 around 4.5-5 sec, depending on launch technique used. 996 is a sports car where as Cl is a large coupe. Complete opposite in feel. If you just want a hot rod, AMG is nice. If you want a sports car that is balanced - brakes, accelerate, corner well, get the 996.
Porsche ownership is much more rewarding. Go for a test drive and you'll be sold. However, if you want space to haul 4 people, the 996 isn't it. It'll hold kids in the back only.

I second that.
GO for a test drive
There are some who actually wouldnt like it. Relative to the AMGs and Ms of the world, the Porsche is clearly much less of a hot rod. But given enough seat time, you will learn to appreciate the depth of engineering that goes into a Porsche. I have only owned porsches for 8 years and am currently on No. 4. My dear wife wouldn't have it any other way (I know, she is a keeper ;-) ). In her eyes, there is only one sports car that can sit in our driveway.

While many AMG benzes will out accelerate the C4S in a straight drag race, the MB's can't out handle them in the curves. I love my CLK, but it feels heavy, soft and huge compared to my C4S...not exactly traits used to describe a true sports car. Drive a p-car a few times and you'll see ohw the experience becomes addictive. The first time you drive it, is more about getting used to the different way thses cars behave and how direct everything is.

Here's a video from 5th Gear that highlights the differences in the design philosophy behind both cars:

I have a C4S and an MB CL600. I love my MB but if I had to choose between the two, I'd take the C4S in a heartbeat. The MB handles well, is comfortable, and is great when I need more room or am travelling on straight interstates such as between Indianapolis and Chicago. However, the C4S provides an uncomparable treat every time I get behind the wheel.
