996 motor mods.
I noticed on, I think, the UK Porsche website, that their is some motor mods sold thru Porsche for the 3.4L motor. I think hotter cams, or throttle body or intakes. It gives 15-20 new hp. Has anyone had experience with this?
Is it worth it?..
My salesman just came back from a sales course from Porsche where they said the 3.4L block is made to handle 1200hp, obviously it would never be modified to that level, but knowing that, would it be possible then to bore out the 3.4L block to 3.6, or even 3.8L?
Let me know what u guys think?

Maxeemum,
Wy would Porsche use the crankcase based on the 993 and GT1 for the twin turbo if the 996 engine would be able to be reliable at high power output? ( Don't believe all those wild story's. )
By the way Porsche Racing 991 GTR 3 does not use 996 engines.

they wouldn't use it b/c the water cooled motor is not fully developed thats why.......
Your response should be,
Why would Porsche use a brand new motor that hasn't been developed in their racing program?...obviously no one in their right mind would. The water cooled motor might be a motor though that they would use in maybe 5 to 10 years time after it has been developed more..
but b/c Porsche uses the old air cooled block says nothing negative about the 3.4L block's ability to handle stress....
there is no wild story to believe, all of u guys are missing my point...
I am ultimate asking if the 3.4L motor could be bored out to 3.6L or 3.8L..and to date no one has even attempted to answer that....
i wish i never mentioned the 1200hp thing.

The 2002 996 is going to be 3.6 litres as stock instead of the 1999-2001 3.4 litres.
I do not know about the other questions posed here though.

i read an article by Brock on speedvision.com which basically states that the 996 engine was developed by the "marketing" department, and not the motorsport engineers (Weissach) who've traditionally developed all previous 911 engines. For that reason, the 996 engine was deemed "not suitable for racing"
a big disappointment to me
others have mentioned that the engine can not take the repetitive G's that drains the oil (there needs to be a dry sump, or something like that); sounds like this current engine has a long way to go before it's "race ready", but as a consumer car, the engine works well, it's just not build to the high racing tolerances of earlier engines is my deduction
