Cool Hello All! I just bought my "new" preowned 996 Cab!

I can't believe my search/nightmare is over! After starting out looking for 993 cabs, I moved on to the 996. This was the SIXTH car I was serious about buying in my nationwide search that spanned the last few months and quite a few man hours (other deals fell through on price negotiations, paint work, PPI, etc.) While the 993 is beautiful, I think the 996 can be just as beautiful (maybe even more so) when configured and upgraded properly.

1999 996 6 speed Cab. 9900 miles with no paint work for $49K even (cash/no financing). I have a 7 year, 100,000 mile bumper to bumper that I purchased at additional cost from the dealership (non-Porsche). They had to certify the car to get that warranty (it was just out of warranty but under 10K miles). It was the dealership owner's private car. It is heavily loaded (original 98K sticker). Some of its options are: full supple leather, large carbon fiber package minus the center console (help! where can I get a great deal on one?), factory aerokit, exhaust tips, 18 inch sport classic wheels (now I have to sell my beautiful, unused 3 piece turbo twist 18s I was saving for the new car), 3 spoke steering wheel, clear light package, hard top, etc. It is triple blue. I have a Fabspeed exhaust on order that will be arriving with the car late next week. I have followed these boards forever on both 993/996, so I knew what my first upgrade would be. 8-)

Here is a picture. I will post more when I get it.

Wow that is an insane deal all the way around! Congradulations. What warranty do you have then if it is a non pcar dealer?

Good question. It is supposed to be a top notch new car warranty that the dealership sells and offers. I will find out and let you know when I get the paperwork with the car. I almost did not make an offer when I found out the car was out of warranty, because the aftermarket warranties go through the roof when that happens. Because the car was under 10K, the dealership was able to offer a very economical warranty as long as their shop performed a mechanical certification for the warranty company. I may keep the car for nearly the entire period. It is all about piece of mind driving. I think instant cash wire transfer helps in negotiations.

I bought my car cash as well. I just know that depending on the warranty, it might not be too worth while, as some are much better than others by an extreme extent, so much so that they do not honor any repair work at all! It is important to know what you have as it will make a world of difference. There are two that have been mentioned in other posts which I hope either of which are the ones you have. I unfortunately have the GE warranty and I am told it is not that great, especially when push comes to shove and something that is boarderline needs to be done, then they will not honor it, nor cover it.

That is a great deal I wathced it on e-bay, didn't it go for $53? Your first MOD should definately be clear side markers Also maybe some new floor mats Congrats you got a great deal. Keep your eye one ebay for a center console $650 to $800 range.

Yes, it did go for 53K on ebay. The deal fell through. It was relisted for the same price. I called the owner up and offered 49K cash via instant wire transfer that afternoon. He took it. I guess that is the power of cash. He lowered the buy it now price to 49K while I was on the phone and I clicked on it. Ebay was the perfect purchase contract. If you search on completed items, you will see that it just sold for 49K. The full supple leather and carbon fiber negate the stock interior quality issues that I could never live with on the 99s. Unfortunately, the center console is still stock 99 and it has to go. I either spend $150 for a new '01 metro blue one from Porsche or find a good deal on a carbon fiber unit (my preference). I can't/won't pay 1K for this piece. I can live with $650 or a little more. I hope you are right about seeing one on ebay. Maybe I could check with a dismantler as well. Clear side markers are an immediate order on Monday along with Lloyds solid color heavyweight mats. Those mats in there have GOT TO GO. Also, I am going to go to a light tint here in San Diego (where the car is shipping to). The dark tint looks too drug dealer like for me. I may drive it like that for a few days around town while asking people if they want to buy some blo' while stopped at the street corners. 8-)

B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!!!! What a great deal too. I too chose a 996 over 993, I felt that it was more advanced and went by Excellence Magazines advice: "buy the newest one you can afford".

Are you planning on selling the Classic wheels that are on the Cab now? Congrats!

The Classic wheels (on the car) are the only set that would cause me to sell my other wheels. The other wheels are stunning 3 piece 18 inch turbo twists with polished lips. They are unused. They have been in my garage for 2 years waiting for a Porsche to go on. The Classic is a very expensive wheel that looks too much in sync with the aerokit to pull. I will probabably post the other wheels for sale here as well as ebay. The nice thing, however, is that I can use the proceeds from the wheel sale to pay for my initial upgrades.

I will have to check which blue that is. It looks like the darker one. I have a mega stereo system sitting at my house ready to go in (Focal, Mcintosh, etc.). I will post pictures of the install in about two weeks or so.

That you for the compliments. This car (along with its price) made everything that I went through worth it.

Wow...and I thought I had gotten a good deal. Very nice...love the color. I traded out my classic II's like yours for a new set of 5 spoke 2002 Carrera wheels. That made a huge difference. It updated the car's look.

Let's see some more pics. I wish I had the Aero kit on mine, but it's too expensive for me for an after the fact purchase...

Great car.....I know you'll enjoy it.

Phattey...

Hi Edward...congratulations on your deal! And WELCOME to the CABCLUB

That is one beautiful car! Besides the highly recommended clear side markers do you have any plans for mods?

Hello Don,

Plans for mods:
1) clear side markers
2) Lloyds Matts
3) Jimmy's Xenon Bulbs (they rock on my BMW 5er)
4) Fabspeed or Gemballa Exhaust?? (help!!)
5. Replace the 99 center console with 01 blue or carbon center. I would kill for a carbon center in the $650 or little higher range.
6) Mega Mcintosh/Focal Stereo installed in 3 weeks
7) Go to lighter Tint.
8) Maybe a B&M shifter or ROW M030 suspension
That's about all.
Thank you for the compliments.
