Hi Guys,
I've been lurking in here for the past month and have been very impressed by the knowledge of the participants on this board. You guys have been a wealth of knowledge for existing and newbies alike.
Well, my name is ray, and I recently bought my '01 966 from a big local chain dealer (Carmax) for $46,600 or $51k otd. I love this car (tip, 18" sports design rims, and not much more) with 19996 miles. Now I can't stop wanting to drive it.
I do have a problem and need some advice: A few days after I bought the car, I noticed a small oil leak on the right side of the car. Since I purchased the maxcare warranty for $1600 that covers all but maintenance and wear and tear items for next 7 years or another 75000 miles. I was going to pay $75 maxcare deductible to Rusnak Porsche to replace the cover gasket after confirmation that the leak is not RMS but the right bank valve cover gasket. However Rusnak could not get payment authorization to do the work because the warranty company wants me to return the car to the purchasing dealership to look at the leak. Then the dealership will drive the car to Rusnak. This sucks. I don't want a 20 year old porter to go joyriding in my car. They also said that I would expect a week and a half after the work is done before Rusnak gets paid for the work, which means my car will be in the shop for two weeks or more. This sucks donkey dong.
So what should I do? Live with the leak which is probably a drop per day, or should I bite the bullet and get it fixed? Anyone know of a good independent shop in Los Angeles or San Gabriel Valley area? Many thanks,
-Ray

The car looks great! I am not as expert as most of the guys in the forum, but I believe you should "fix it as you find it". It keeps things from piling up and you will be able rest your mind.... goood luck.

I know it is hard to part with your new baby, very nice by the way, but I would get it fixed. A drip a day would drive me crazy...
Ps: I see you picked the right color and already have the clear side markers...

No, clear side markets are not standard on ANY model year Porsche shipped to the USA.

Ray, my Boxster was purchased from Carmax in VA 2 years ago and I also had an oil leak that was fixed under the Maxcare warranty. I took it to my regular shop, they called had it set up and I was out the door in 2 days. The cost was a little misleading though. I had the $75 deductable because I did not take it back to Carmax plus my shop and the warranty company were $300 a part in estimated cost. My shop split it with me...so it was $225 out the door and the warranty company paid $1,500. I am not sure why there is such a delay in payment, I would fight that with the delarship and the warranty company.
Nice car and welcome aboard!

put your own credit card down, let them fix the car .....charge your warranty company and once they get paid release the hold on your card....so you don't have to wait that long!
