I bought a used hardtop for my seal gray 2000 996 cab. It was described as gray with a black interior. I put it on today and it looks like a completely different shade of gray.
I wonder if it is even silver.
Is there a way to know what the color is? Maybe the hardtop has some sort of marking? Sorry about the quality of the picture, but it is almost dark and I was anxious to get feedback. I can take more pics in the am for clarity.

I'm thinking of asking for a refund or something.. I'll probably get it painted as I have some other touch ups to do. I was just hoping to find the same color top and as it was advertised, I thought I had.....
I may consider the new trend thing .... at least I could move on to more mods

Confused on this one. How did you miss the color in your contact with the seller? You should know what you OFFICIAL color is and the top should be the same. Grey/Silver/etc can mean one of 20+ different colors.

The top was described as an original porsche part, which it is. It indicated that it was gray with a black interior. I bought it from Los Angeles Dismantler via ebay. They also have silver tops listed. That is why I felt confident that it was gray. Here is the pic of the advertisement... Looks gray to me.

That is NOT the same top! Typical of LAPD!!!!! This has happened so many frickin times on this board it is hard to count that high. Not sepcifically the top but guys ordering one thing and then getting another. I would demand the correct top or a refund. Painting will not be cheap.

I called them and a nice lady indicated that they were closed, but that I should send an email to them requesting that they look into it. I have done just that!.... the saga continues

aaaaah, LA Dismantlers...do a search and you'll see some boarders experiences with them. Its definitely arctic silver as i have the same hardtop.
u have a few options:
your first move should see if u can return/exchange for seal grey. if not, try to sell it. last move would be to have it repainted...or be the first on the board to rock a two-toned 996 cab.

Thanks for the advice. I would like to try to exchange for a seal gray. We'll see how they respond. It cost $400 to ship the damn thing. Don't want to pay that again either.

whoa johnny! just think, u spending $400 to ship back and another $400 to ship the correct color to u!
at that point, u might as well cut your losses and put that $800 to paint the hardtop.

yeah, im big on the whole customer service thing and in retrospect, sure u and they could've been more careful and throrough. If you asked and ordered the seal grey top and they sent u an arctic silver, then they should take care of all incurred shipping costs. If they just said grey and u assumed it was seal grey...sorry, but u may be out of luck.
You already dropped like $1k on the top + $400 shipping...again, its a matter of how much you're willing to spend to remedy the situation.
maybe u can sell it on the board as there are other seal grey cabs lurking for a top. sell for a little less and have buyer cover shipping...again, still taking a loss, but a lesser hit, no?

If they shipped you the wrong top THEY are responsible for the shipping BOTH ways!!! If you assumed the color and didn't ask questions, you might be out of luck.
