Please Help! 996 front hood release - can it be done manually
Somebody please help me! I've tried the jumping procedures listed in the manual. Does anyone know of a way to open the hood manually or another way other than what is in the manual?

The front trunk release cable is usually behind the right front headlight. Now if you could get to that without opening the hood it would make sense. You might be able to get to it from behind the wheel well liner? I and a number of us have moved the cable to the point behind the front tow hook hole. So in an emergency you just remove the tow hook plug and pull the cable -- don't worry if the car is alarmed it will still go off.
If you can't get in because the battery is dead use a charger through the lighter socket to apply just enough power to release the front hood.
(BTW... the cable behind the passenger door hinge is the emergency release for the gas filler cap.)
