996 Order - Where ??
I'm getting closer to ordering a 2002 (or maybe 2003) Carrera 2.
However, I'm not sure where/how to do it.
I'm a consultant and spend most of my time split between California and my home in Boise, Idaho.
I would just order one in Boise, except the only Porsche dealer went out of business a few years ago.
So in the interests of saving money I need to figure out how to make this work for me.
Options as I see them:
1) Order a car in Oregon and register it in Idaho (any opinions on Carrera Motorsports in Bend, OR).
2) Order a car in California for delivery in California (California Registration)
3) Order a car in California and have it delivered in Idaho (Idaho registration). (Any really good dealers in Southern or Northern Cal ?)
Anybody have any opinions on the best course of action ? Am I missing something ?
Thanks,
Roger

If cost and availability is any consideration, you might check two markets that are experiencing some reduced demand. Houston in particular. The Enron thing has reduced a lot of demand and I suspect freed up some inventory. The Northwest may also be a little soft now I understand, due to the dot com wash out. Have you figured out where you'll service the car?
Service might be a problem.
The car will be in Southern California most of the time, so I should be able to find somebody to service it.
In Boise I'm not sure what I'll do.
So has anybody ordered a car from an out of state dealer ?
Is it a problem to get another dealer to service the car ?

Roger,
I live in suburban NY and recently purchased my car from a Porsche dealer in Florida with Porsche certification warranty.
I have two Porsche dealers that are local to me encouraging me to use their service facilities. I do not see it as a problem.
I hope this helps.

I second Private8. I bought my first 996 in 1999 from the Porsche dealer in Southampton N.Y. and had no problem getting the Manhattan dealer (where I live) to do some warranty work when I needed it. I bought my 2nd 996 from the Manhattan dealer and the Southampton dealer does the scheduled maintenance because they're open on Saturdays. Also, Porsche surveys their owners after a service call so the dealers don't want you saying anything bad that might affect their franchise.
