Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Vincent and I am from Northern VA. I have been considering a 996 for sometime now and will probably buy one in the next couple days. I've been following this forum for the last week or so and have found it to be the most active. Members also seem to be very knowledgable.

So far, I've found one that seems like a good deal. $33K for a 2000 C2 with about 40k miles. Owner says it is a one owner car with original paint. Carfax shows no accidents etc. Sound like a good deal?

Thanks in advance.

Vincent

Vincent - Welcome to the Forum. Yes, that sounds like a pretty good deal. Make sure you get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) at a Porsche dealer or an independant shop.

Have the guys at Intersport in Tysons or IMA in Vienna to do a PPI.

Thanks for the responses. I am familiar with Intersport and I drive by the street they are on almost every morning. The car is actually located in New York. It just seems like such a big risk purchasing a car sight unseen over the Internet. I am going to see if the owner is willing to do a PPI and have the dealership fax me the results.

Has anybody had any experience with purchasing a car out of state? Any helpful tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks again.

Welcome aboard and look forward to seeing you in NOVA. I actualy just bought my 996 in New York in January. It is a pretty easy process. You can go to the VADMV and get a Transport plate, I think it cost $20 (you will need the VIN#) and is good for a week. This plate will get you back to VA. You then need to get a safety and emissions inspection, then go to the DMV and pay the taxes and registration fees. If you are financing the car the process maybe a little different. Good luck and I too would recomend a PPI; however, it sounds like a really good price.

Hi jaindc, Thanks for responding. My biggest concern is that I get to NY and the car is not everything that I would hope for it to be. I am realistic and understand that not everything is perfect, but I would expect the car to be as the seller describes it. I have never done business with the seller and cannot find any feedback on him. I am certainly going to get the PPI done before moving forward. Maybe I am just being paranoid.

I Hear you Screameleons. I had the same concern. I Had a hard time finding a white cab with the options I wanted, thus my trip to NY. I agree with PL. Drive a few if you have not, that way you will have a better idea of what you are looking at. Don't get emotional. For me I always wanted a 911 and it was tough but I did walk away from 2 others that I looked at and I can honsetly say now that I am so glad I did. I rented a car to pick up the 996, that way if I liked it I could leave the car and if I didn't I had a ride home. I think it is better to take someone with you, that way you can talk it over. The PPI should clear up most of your fears.

Congrats. I'm sure some of the NY folks can recommend a few places for a PPI.

You might be able to find a NY Rennlister to eyeball it for you too - to make sure it sounds like the real deal (we are a helpful bunch in that way ).

The car rental idea is great. I never thought to do that. The car is located in Hollis NY. If somebody is in the area and doesn't mind eyeballing it, I would be extremely appreciative. Please let me know of any good places to do a PPI in that area as well.

Thanks again for the prompt responses.
