why don't both rear fog lights come on in german cars? only the left rear fog comes

why don't both rear fog lights come on in german cars? only the left rear fog comes
on. i know this applies to audis and mercedes also. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Ignacio, I don't know why, but' it's true, there 's only one , maybe it's beacause is just enough?!.
When you have 2 rear fog lights on in front of you, It's very unconfortable ...
The goal is for ex. in a foggy day to see the car and keep your distance, and not be bodered by this light.

If I'm not mistaken, the code requires only one (left in left-hand drive cars) fog light. This is done to prevent the fog light from being confused with brake lights which use the same 21W single filament bulb.

This is also known as the left hand "clear" (as in it's clear to the left to pass) light. If you go to the left of the bright light, you're going to miss the car altogether. If they had 2, you wouldn't know where the side of the car was and in the event that you could only see one light, you might run right smack into it.
