Post serpentine belt broke!

Well my serpentine belt just broke. Pretty random huh? I drive the car hard but rather weird. Has anyone else had this happen? I have 36k. I was driving and had the ac on and was in traffic. I went to go and the noticed the steering was out. I thought it was the power steering pump and pulled over the car was pretty hot almost at the next mark after the 180. When I stopped it was puking a bit of fluid, which I have never seen at that temp. I go to check the fluid in the resivoir and notice the belt is broken. I am somewhat relieved as I can put the belt back on myself. Only place that has it is downtown porsche and I am in sm. sm and bh didn't have it. A friend is getting it tomorrow

My questions is to Loren, Hey do you have a write up doing this? I have done it before so I know it's just about putting a socket on the idler arm and them relieving it to set the belt etc., However it is difficult to see where the idler arm is, and what size bolt I need to use. It would appear for sure I have to remove the airbox to do so to make things easier for sure. If anyone else knows or has had this happen that would be great to know myself if it is indicative of anything.

I am of course going to inspect and clean the pulleys first. Thanks

did yours break or is that an underdrive pulley set? What size socket did you use for loosening the idler pulley just incase it is the same? I am of course assuming that is uses a conventional idler arm pulley ala most serpentine belts. Thanks Anyone else? Help!

Not my car. Did the 60K service on a friend's Boxster, as the belt is supposed to be replaced at that time. 24mm is the size for the idler. Jeff

tight thanks. I really appreciate it. Was all you used was that 24mm end wrench? Was that enough torque to move it or did you use a hollow pipe as an extension? Thanks.

oh hey also I tried to save the pic so I could zoom in on it but it won't let me save it? Could you email the thing to me if it's not too much of a pain? otherwise I think I am set knowing the big *** size of wrench that I need. Gotta raid my dad's snap on set as mine only goes to 19mm.

My skinny arms would not let me do it with the short 24mm combination wrench, but it can be done. So I used a 24mm socket on the end of a 2 foot breaker bar. You see the end of the bar in the picture. It is a very long belt by the way.

Yeah that is what I was going to use! I have a torx wrench but if my father is going to supply the socket then he can bring the breaker bar also. thanks!
