I live in NJ and will have a removable top when my c4 cab gets here(man, they row so slow. I am wondering if you guys actually use them, where you store them,if the dealers can store them and if there are any tricks with regards to mounting them. Thanks in advance.
Remember this past winter...you'll want to use it! As far as storage, you could always get a public storage closet for ~$35 month to put it in. Would also be a good place to put the summer tire/rims when you swap out the winter set..
Putting the top on is pretty straight forward.
You can ask your dealer if he acn store it, but its kinda bulky, so I would think not...
Does the removable top come with the C4 Cabs as a standard issue item? Just curious cause I read somewhere in the information for the new C4S Cab advertisement that every cabriolet has come with one.
i only really need to use mine if going to the snow or travelling - owise its stored against the wall with a blanket at all contact points. putting it on/off is a 2 person job (and my wife cant do it)- only thing i found is that the rubber around the hard top needs re greasing otherwise if its been off for a long time its dried/removed and the roof creaks a little. not sure if porsche do it but bmw will take the soft top off and store it (at a price) as if the roof was on the car and closed rather than folded down in the storage area
Get a hoist and attach the top to your garage ceiling. I like the dual look of my car, top on and top off. Even with me there, 1/2 of the weight of my top would crush my wife. With the hoist, I can do it myself.
Everything said above.....except that the hard top is not so much heavy as it is bulky and a bit awkward. You want someone on the other side of it (unless you go with the hoist solution) who has a PROFOUND appreciation for the damage the mounting spikes will do to the paint if the top is not properly aligned before it is set down on the car......
I store mine in my garage the same way Dom4474 described above, covered and surrounded by mouse taps.....
That is strange, a family member of mine bought a C4 Cab in Florida also and I don't believe according to the window sticker that the delete removable top option is listed.
I think the hoist is the way to go. www.performanceproducts.com has a pretty good one that I plan on installing. That way, it's a one man deal and it stores out of the way. I use mine a lot just to preserve the condition of the soft top.
