YES LOTS!

I think you can find some old postings on this topic. But, with this question we usually get the emotional bunch who thinks their toy is better then the other.

But, I love them both. 993 looks great and last of the classic air cool engine. 996, overall better everyday car and easier to love with.

So, my final advice! Beg a friend or a dealer for a test drive on both and go fromt there.

Louis:
You just have to read the 993 forum and 996 forum to see the problems and advatages of each car.
Then is up to you to make a decision.

Perhaps the biggest mechanical difference is air vs water cooled. Most will argue the 993 has more visceral, sporty character and feel than the 996 which feels more refined and is roomier (I never fit well in a 993). The newer 996 have more power and torque and are less expensive to maintain than the 993.

These are the fundamental differences but as noted above, there are many threads about this with people on all side of the camp.

It's been trodded over and over with respect to the cars mentioned. Best thing is test drive both and see what makes your blood boil and go from there. They are all good!!! Regards. Mike

Test drive both and also see which appeals more to you viscerally. Both great cars, can't go wrong with either one.

My .02 is 5 fold;

Appearance
Drivability and comfort
Reliability (repair costs, etc.)
Purchase cost Factor
Value retention

Then ask yourself what you plan on using it for..daily driver; garage queen; track,DE; social driving, etc.

Then go about your research as suggested. Personally I loved my 993CS, but it was a 6spd and wife couldn't drive it. Traded it in for a 996 Cab/TipS. Frankly I liked the lines of the 993, but the 996 grows on you, and in my case the 996 is more comfortable.

Good luck in your decision. You can't go wrong!
