Post How do I remove glass face from Tach?

Anyone know how to remove the glass from the tachometer (on a 1999 C2) so I can clean behind it? There's very noticible smudge on the other side of it. Kinda strange.

Thanks,
Mark

I just did some work on my gauges last night. are you mechanically apt and very careful.
The picture above is correct but disassembly requires finesse. Once you get the gauges out , you need to remove metal clips from outside tab (in bottom picture) then unplug electrical connections on both sides ( back of bottom picture) by 1st prying gently with a flat blade screwdriver against green connector, then by pressing tabs outward. pull off clock and dimmer button (they are pressure fit) un clip tabs and pull apart. Have spare gauge unit ready in case you break something.. That's it.. Seriously, if you have any doubts, this is not where you want to learn to play

Is that what I really have to do just to clean the tach glass from the inside? It doesn't sound like it's worth the risk of breaking something.

If I decide to do it, how do I initially get the gauge cluster out of the dash? I don't see any exposed screws when I look at it while sitting in the car.

Thanks,
Mark

there should be numerous discussions in the search engine on this. It is actually much easier than what you see in the pics. just push in the hazard light and pry it out with your fingers (this is easier when hazard light is on), also remove the plastic perforated circle cover for the phone mic. there are 2 torx screws, after removing those you can follow toms directions.
