Post Escort S2 Opinions?

Sorry if offtopic, but I'm sure there are many experts out there and interested readers!!

Does anyone have experience with the Escort S2? Is it any good, worth about $330?

On a recent roadtrip across Nevada, I used a Valentine which worked great. But I would really love CORDLESS...no mess, no fuss!

No experience with the S2 but the only places where radar detectors aren't legal in VA and DC.

Lots of V1 fans on this site so get ready for the why would you by an escort comments:-)

The Solo S2 is a great looking detector and much better than the earlier Solo model.

The problem: Cordless models lack the distance of corded models for the same reason a car phone gets better reception than a hand held mobile phone -- POWER SUPPLY.

I talked to Escort a few days ago. One sales person said 25% less distance, the other said 50%. I belive it depends on the typeof signal band. Either way, that is a big trade off to simply lose the cord.

Most of the radar tests were done in 2001. Take a look at these sites and go to the escort site, they have many links to the magazine test sites.

If anyone knows, I would like to know when the Passport 8500 will be upgraded.

Don't know about the S2, but the 8500 is excellent. I bought it because it is simplicity over the V1. The fewer lights and controls the better IMO. The thing is incredibly sensitive, way more than necessary really for me. Re the S2, having to turn the thing on every time would be a pain. No thanks.

I too would like to know when the 8500 will be upgraded - From the dates of the reviews, I think it was late '00 - isn't that incredibly old for a computer-type of device? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Not quite the same subject but I wonder why the V1 was never "modernized" from an aesthetic point of view. Certainly there have been electronic improvements, but they look the same as they did years ago. I have one and love it, but they look really old fashioned
