$1,106 Raised so far for JDRF! (Please Read!)
Thanks to everyone who has donated to my Drive Across America for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation! We've raised $1,106 so far (or 19 cents per mile)! It's a great cause, and you can give either through me or directly to JDRF -- and it's tax deductible!
See this website for all the details and thanks for your donations!

I never understood these ways of raising money. Someone or group has fun doing something and wants people to contribute to their "cause". Most people get some kind of tax deduction for doing these sorts of things. My neighbor kid wants donations for their rowing team and wqants us to "sponser" them for so many cents per mile. I suggested they rake leaves for seniors or help with some kind of community project that I would be more than happy to donate to. But no go. People want me contribute to them walking, rowing, driving etc. for one cause or another biut nobody wants to "work" anymore! <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

If you read the post (or looked at the website), it says you can donate DIRECTLY to JDRF, so I never see the money. It doesn't support me, only goes to Juvenile Diabetes research.
You don't have to donate, that's your decision -- but I just want to clarify I'm not getting anything out of this. In fact this fund raising effort will probably end up costing me a good $1,000 out of my pocket, which I cannot write off.

You need a better accountant! Yes you can write it off as a charatable donation expense. My point is that people do these things for their own pleasure when they should be doing something that DIRECTLY benefits others! What does driving your car across the country do for anybody?

I suppose your point could be correct overall -- however, I don't have experience in Diabetes research, so I thought I could at least raise money for it.
You don't really do if I actually do other "real" volunteer work, no do you?
