Question Oil Consumption

What's a healthy versus problematic rate of oil consumption on a broken-in '02 or '03 996?

As no one has given any thoughts, I will make the following observation. For 993's, Porsche acceptable oil consumption is 600 miles per quart of oil. I'm afraid I do not know whether this spec. changed with the 996. Your dealer should be able to give you that number. The 993 figure came out of a service manual my dealer showed me.

The 996 Service Information publication list the following:

Oil Consumption Maximum 1.0L/1000km

Oil consumption varies with each individual car, how hard you drive it, type of driving, etc. but if it reached the maximum listed above then you probably have a problem.

With normal driving my 996 uses about .75L every 5k miles.
