Question Purchasing 2002 C4S

I will soon be purchasing a 2002 C4S Silver/Black Tip, Advanced Technique, (Maybe sports seats). My dealer is trading a Targa he has for my C4S. I will be paying MSRP, unless my the market cools off in the next 2 weeks!! But I do not think that will happen!!

A couple of questions:

1) I usually buy my cars used with very low miles. I do not enjoy taking the obligatory hit once I drive the car off the showroom floor!! Having said that I am trading a car in, and paying full sticker!! How much is Luxury Tax? Is it based on the purchase price? Or is it a fixed number? How do I calculate this? Does my trade effect the luxury tax in the same manner it effects sales tax? I will be getting $65,000 on trade.

2) I am a little concerned about model changes, and thus market values, as witnessed by the changes made in 2002 vs 1999,2001. Anybody have reliable info. regarding changes to the C4S in the 2003-2004? And how do you think the C4S will hold its value?

3) Aftermarket Exhaust...any recommendations? And is the porsche sport exhaust available for this car?... Not many options on the C4S is my understanding? True?

Thanks for feedback and/or opinions. Any other concerns, comments and suggestions welcome!!

PAB, if you are getting 65k for your trade in then I think you should make the move. The car is a beauty and I think like the prior model 993C4S. It is going to hold it's value well. If not then i be glad to buy from you at book value(why dont you buy a 6speed).

As for the model change, I was told that they are going to change the model around 2007 and also regarding your engine. I am sure at some pt you can get a good tuner to reprogram your engine to produce 350 without changing a thing. Since, that is what porsche does anyways.

Good luck

Bloke,

I am consolidating cars and I am planning on using the C4S as my daily driver...although living in the city I do not drive a whole lot!! That is why I wanted the Tip. Plus at 34 I am getting to old for a six speed!!

Fed lux tax is based on the amount over $40K (I believe) paid and is not offset by trade differences in the same manner state sales tax is - in some states.

Luxury tax varies year to year...this year it is 3% on amounts over $40K....so you will be paying 3% on $47000 or roughly $1400. Enjoy the car. I picked up mine two weeks ago and am thrilled.
