Default WTB 996 for about 30k

I am looking to buy a 996 for about 30k, which likely limits me to a 1999 or a 2000. Please let me know if you are aware of anything.

Prefer Black or Silver (on black or grey). Must be manual transmission.

More like a 1999 with high miles (which by the way is not the way to go). If you are strapped for cash and 30K is your max you can afford then this is NOT the car for you. Last thing you want to do is buy at your limit and then have a major expense creep up on you. These cars are not cheap. And don't even get me started on the mods....I have easily sunk 30K in mods into my car.

Just something to think about.

He MIGHT be able to find a decent 1999 or 2000 C2 without alot of options for around 30K....Have it checked thoroughly before buying anything like that, expensive repairs can creep up at any moment on these cars.

true....but as I pointed out he will end up with high miles, zero options, and the potential for costly repairs if any potential pitfalls are not diagnosed during a FULL ppi.

I'm just not a big fan of people buying something they are stretching to afford and fail to realize these are VERY expensive high performance cars that take deep pockets to kepp in tip top shape (and modded )

Good sugestion. A lot of people do not consider the Boxster and they are missing out. For $30K he can get a nice Boxster and have a little left over for some basic maintanence. The Boxster is a lot of fun for the money.

996 for 30k??? what has the world come to! Only kidding... But I must admit 996 prices are dropping like crazy.

Agreed with comments above. If 30k is your max budget, it might be a better suggestion looking for a different car, maybe a used boxster s. Expect very high miles...

I would have bought a boxster..but have a kid and need a back seat, just for the rare occassion that we take the P....a decked out boxster with litronix upgrade and 19" rims!! Nothing wrong with these cars!
If you are handy...you can get a 911 from 99 with high milleage for around 30K.....you might mod a lot, but that is going to happen anyways and ebay is a great source for mod parts!! You can't be that picky with the outside and I would take an extended warranty just to cover you A... a little.
I also all depends on how many miles you are planning to drive a year....and double the miles you have in your head right now!!! I thought I would drive about 7500 a year...have the P for 6 months and already put 7500 on it !!! And loving every minute!

I dont know about 30k but for 32k or so I could probably get you into a 99 coupe with sub 60k miles.

I guess im lucky then, I found mine for 31K with 42,000 miles, and a replacement engine done in 2004 with about 12K on it..... My 03 Boxster new was considerably more (which I am keeping).

2 porsches are better than 1

I really wanted a 993, but when saw a 996 with replacement engine, I investigated and got a great price, it just passed PPI without major issues.
But i'm still sad not getting a 993

I've got a cherry 99 with 45k miles and CPO warranty until June. Black on savannah. No paintwork, no RMS problems, no stories. PM me if you're flexible on the price.

Well, one reason I was able to hop into my car is because the market is so soft. I've seen a few cars for <$30k, but I wouldn't go near them. When I asked about one in particular, I was told it had no receipts whatsoever. For $30k, I think you'd be selling yourself short... You can do it for under $40k, but sticking to an even $30k is very limiting. FWIW, I hopped into a CPO 2000 with 45k miles for mid-30's (private party). The extra few K really will be worth it, I promise.

Boxster if you want a roadster. Everybody likes convertibles so Porsche and drop top fun makes a Boxster an easy choice. Convertibles have long been the best selling Porsches but the Boxster was the first full blooded convertible Porsche ever made. But a Boxster is very impractical if its your only car! Means I never have to drive when going out with guys!! Yes bartender I'll take another drink he's driving!

**BUT** Boxsters are no more inexpensive to maintain and repair than a low or high mileage 996. The Porsche mechanic will charge you the same $90 per hour rate for either car and the 996 and Boxster share allot of parts that can break down like costly electronics, headlights, AC, cruise etc. and of course the RMS!!!

If you want a high performance roadster consider used Z4, S2000 and BoxsterS
if you want a high performance coupe/sedan consder used 996 maybe M3 or Audi S4.

The Boxster and the 996 have very different purposes, practicality and handling/cornering charecterisitcs. After driving a mid engine car I can say that its HIGHLY unlikely that I will ever drive anything other than a mid engine car, Can you guess what my next Porsche will be?
