The B&M shifter works great in my 2001 C4 Cab
installed it last year..not sure if it would work at that time but we went ahead and tried it anyway, and lo and behold no difference in between the C2 and C4.
the guys at Performance automotive did a great job.
I stayed and helped with the install...took 30-45 min..fit fine, this car needs this shifter!!!
it transforms it. it does increase the shift effort slightly but the feel is awesome, so solid
and quick. I think the stock shifter is a compromise for the variety of drivers
I highly reccomend it for all you C4 owners!!!
I paid $299 for the B&M short shifter plus $75 for installation...........

 

I installed the TechArt Shift Kit yesterday and drove the car some last night and today. I like it better compared to the B&M I had in my 996 C2. It was easy to install and can be removed and replaced with the stock setup. I liked the B&M also, but it was more notchy; however, it is at least one-half the cost.

To install the TechArt you need a T55 Torx, 4 and 8 mm hex drivers, needle nose pliers. I just backed my car onto ramps, and crawled under. I used the needle nose pliers to pop the shift linkage off of the shift lever at the transmission. I just pushed them under the clip and pried up to pop it off. Everything else is very straight forward.

I had installed my own B&M, and this is easier, but a dirty job crawling under a car.

 

The B&M knock-off I got on ebay seems to be assembled improperly. first; the handle rattles in the red carrier. Second; the handle angles toward the driver not away as the stock one. Third; the right hand cross-bolt nut does not clear the porsche carrier.... anyone seen these problems? Aaand I know I should have bot the real B&M. jvm
