Default Question about extended warranties

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and there is a ton of great info here (as well as some insane cars!). I'm looking to pick up an '01 996 very shortly and would sleep much better at night with an extended warranty.

Does anyone have any leads on the best extended warranty available for a 996 and the appx. cost? I'm looking for bumper to bumper coverage.

Thanks and looking forward to joining the club.

The best warranty is the Certified Pre Owned (CPO) from Porsche dealers....6yr/100K miles.

There have been 2 aftermarket warranty companies which have been declared insolvent (one mentioned here/996TT and one metioned in the Cayenne forum).
Some folks invested upwards of $6K for a warranty that is now worthless.

In order to obtain a CPO warranty however, I would need to purchase the car from a dealer right?

I've been looking at buying from a private party...

CPO warranties are transferable from private individuals...As a matter of fact, I think they are ONLY transferable from private parties, not the dealer. You can buy the waranty from the dealer, or you can find a private party person who did buy the waranty from the dealer and buy his/her car and it will transfer to you.

Thanks Mark. So it is possible to purchase a vehicle from a private party w/o a warranty and take it to the dealer for warranty purchase correct?

Any idea what a CPO warranty would run for an '01 996?

JP,

I re-read my reply and realize it is clear as mud...

It is my understanding that you CAN NOT buy a private party car and add a CPO warranty.

If the private party car already has the warranty (with time remaining on it), you can transfer it.

OR you can buy a car from a dealer that is a CPO car (that the dealer in question has certified the car and has attached the Porsche Warranty to the car).

Or you can buy a car from a dealer that is not Certified (no CPO warranty).

If you buy a car from an auto dealer that had a CPO warranty in the past, that specific warranty doesn't transfer with the car to the new owner (CPO Warranties only TRANSFER through a private party sale).

I'm not sure if I cleared things up or made them more confusing?

Mark

You can...ask th edealer to buy the car, certify it and add the warranty, then sell it to you...expect around $3K for this....sometimes its worth it to find one from a Porsche dealer....ITS WORTH IT....
