Post C4 and bigger tires

My rear tires on my 2001 c4 cab just do not seem to fit over the wheel enough. There is absolutely no protection for the rim. I wanted to put bigger tires on the rear, maybe 295. I have the sport rad wheels in 18 inch size. My problem is, is that the dealer told me that a different tire size will screw up the AWD system and ABS or something. Is this true? What is the biggest tires I can fit on my wheels in the front and rear? I am was thinking of going with SO3's instead of the Pirelli becuase I am getting a little less than 7k miles on the rear tires. Both outer edges are wearing to almost bald and the middle is not. The dealer said it is normal, but I do not know if I believe them. What do you think?

Here is a link to the Porsche approved wheel/tire size setups...

You can also talk to the folks at Wheel Enhancement... they know what works and what doesn't.
