My 4 yr old son has become fixated on the 996, and proudly points out every one on the road. (There are lots in northern california).
I want to get him one of the 1/18 or so scale models. Anyone know anything about the various brands? In a quick web search I've seen UT, AutoArt, Gate, Gateway to name a few. Prices appear to be between $20 and $50.
Which are most realistic / detailed?
Do any of the cabrio models have working tops?
I bet a lot of you have one of these on your desk or bookshelf. Pls let me know the mfr and your opinion of how authenitic the model is.
Thx!

UT and AutoArt are probably the best detailed in 1/18th scale. Check www.autofanatics.com for a good source other than Ebay.

I agree with RJT's recommendation, but I'll add that I prefer 1/43 scale for detail. Even though they are much smaller, I find them to be more accurate. Whatever you do, skip 1/24 scale. Very few of that size are even close.

Don't care about detail ! A 4y old kid doesn't know the value of it. You'd better buy a remote controlled Porsche. You can find them on the Porsche website : there is a Cayenne, turbo and Boxster. He will be much more impressed I think.

Thanks for thinking of it in terms of my 4 yr old. Actually it is okay for it to be a little fragile. It's good for teaching him to respect things. Maybe I can teach him some detailing skills on the model and then when he's older....
Here's another huge website of scale models with many Porsche choices that came up...
http://autoearth.com and then you have to search for the Porsches.
(Don.....They even have a arctic silver cab w/ sport design wheels for you.....but then you'll have to change the bumpers and add a spoiler and ...)
