How much does a 996 engine cost if I need to replace it? Also do you guys know what the GT3 engine would cost and if it is feasible in a c2.

$43K for the GT3 motor. Do not worry about the RMS. The reason I got the engine was because it was covered and the block did not meet spec. RMS will not lead to having to replace the engine.

the C4S has the same block/RMS design as the 3.4 c2/4, 3.6 c2/4. your odds of getting another RMS leak in the c4s, unfortunately, would be the same. you would better chance of not getting an RMS leak with the gt3/TT/gt2, because of the different block, but they too are not immune.

thanks for the info guys...well looks like I'll just deal with it, it's not going to stop me from enjoying the p-car . hopefully my aftermarket warranty will cover it.

RMS will not lead to having to replace the engine.

Unfortunately that's not necessarily an accurate statement. In a small minority of cases, an RMS leak will require a new engine for a permanent repair. There are lots of threads on this forum that cover this issue in detail.

fast1: you are correct. That is what happened to me. What I ment is that his engine will not let go as a result. If I had an out of warrenty 996 I would not buy a new engine to get rid of the leaks I had < quart every 800 miles.

Thanks for keeping me straight.
