Just came from a day at the track. Assorted cars were in attendance. The C4S gave some track prepped and track dedicated cars a good run, as well as lapped a few. At the end of the day, I watched as these cars were loaded on to their trailers, carefully lashed down with cables and what not, then all the associated extra equipment get loaded, etc. Then, I got into the C4S, rolled up the windows, turned the AC on, put Natalie Cole on the CD, and just drove home. I can't get over how track ready these cars are straight out of the box, bone stock.

LOL- all you need is some Dot R compound tires. No trailer needed for your car!!!!!! Tracking is all good <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> . Regards. Mike

I used to do the same thing with the M-5. I would load my in-car stuff back in (radar detector, sunglasses, suit case, etc.) and be on my way.
I later had to start to worry about brake duct cooling and suspension upgrades to optimize my experience. It is a heavy car.
The C2 is also just what you describe! You just put your in-car stuff in and drive off!! I am going to get a trailer, however. Reason? Keep extra miles off the car just going to and fro. (Makes the scheduled service come at a later date, I'll still do it at the required milage). And, I want to get track tires. I find the other C2s that pass me all have tires that allow them to use their suspension better. Other then that, just a better set of brake pads.
Hey, these cars seem to be bullet-proof!! I agree with you.

I've been researching track tires for the C4S, Mike, with a lot of help from Rennlisters. Thing is, I want to stay with the stock tire sizes. The only tires I have been able to find in those sizes for the C4S are PCorsas. They cost more than twice the PZeros for a full set
. Since they are sticky, they will probably last half as long, heh-heh-heh. I'll wait 'til hoosiers or kumhos can come up with sticky dry tires for less money. In the meantime, I like sliding around on my street tires. They squeel with delight
.
I wish I could see more 996's on the track, Stem. It would make me feel less guilty tracking this new car

Not so sure about that.
The stock tyres really overheat and then the wear rate is very high. The "R" tyres are better formulated for these conditions. You might find that they actually last longer (on the track, not on the street obviously).

palting,
was going to try to post last night but the dsl gods let me down.
As chief steward for PCA Potomac I get to see all of the cars as they leave for their track time. The 996's range from the bone stock to the really worked over. For some cars I get to watch the transformation from street to track. But I must say there are a lot of stock 996's that folks bring to the track then load up and go home. Seems for those track junkies (but street cars) the R1's or the new Michelin track tires are the choice. There are a few with the Kuhmo track tires and some with the Toyo's.
Anyway, the car just seems to be that mixture of comfort and quickness that you just can't resist taking on the track. After some coaching, I finally got comfortable in the climbing esses at VIR, but the Roller Coaster will need to wait for better tires.
Looking back this weekend, we went from Ruf, to stock twin turbo to narrow bodied stocks. Keep 'em on the track.
