Unhappy 02 starting issues...

Hi folks,

Since I took delivery of my 02 Carrera, I have noticed that the car has "issues" starting up when cold, e.g. in the morning. Now, I don't like in a cold climate (NV), but when I turn the car on when cold, 3 out of 5 times it does not idle up above 1k RPM and it jus sits there at around 700 RPM stuttering like hell. When I touch the gas pedal, it sounds like its backfiring a bit or it just dies alltogether. Usually turning the car off and then on again fixes the problem immediately.

I relayed this info to my Porsche dealer & mechanic, but the (so far) have been unable to figure out what's wrong.

Any other 02 owners have run into this problem and have a possible solution for me?

Danke!

Mine jumps right to around 1200 to 1300 rpm when cold however you still get a bit of"sputtering" until warm.

A bit tempermental I guess.

There were some posts a few months ago by some people having similar cold start problems. My '02 ran roughly for about the first minute when starting cold. I switched to a different gas and that improved it. I went from Texaco to Chevron (92 octane both). You might try that out.

The car was designed to run on 93 octane for maximum performance. I'd try changing the gas.

urbanski,

thanks a lot for your reply. My dealer also did some reprogramming schtuff, but that didn't fix it...perhaps we all just have to wait for the new "fix" from Porsche.

I will, however, try a 92octane gas...I will report back if it fixed anything.

hehe, at least you didn't say "thanks for your 3 replies" LOL.
Sorry about that.

Yeah, I always use 93 gas, different brands and the like. My dealer also reprogrammed me, no help. Seems until whenever Porsche has another "reprogram" out, we're stuck.
