the outer third of the side view mirrors are convex allowing a much broader view to the rear. these mirrors were present on the porsches, vw's and mercedes that we drove last month. they make changing lanes much easier.
does anyone know if they're available for purchase for u.s. cars and how difficult they are to install? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

They are available at suncoast motorsports on the net.
although if you have elctrochromic driver side mirror it gets pretty expensive. I tried them out for awhile and simply couldn't adjust to them.
So I went back to the simple convex drivers side which you can also get.
I didn't pay the extra in eitehr case for the electrochromic since I find it of so little value. I simply program the last seat, etc, memory button the same as the 1st so both outside mirrors tilt down about 5 degrees, and then I use that setting at night.

If they don't put those mirrors on North American cars it's probably because there is some DOT, NTHSA, or other Fed agency regulation against it....like the distance from the ground to the headlights type thing.
