Post GT3 Air Cooled or Water Cooled?

What is the 1999 GT3 motor?
Is it...

A) same block as 996 Turbo
that is air cooled block, water cooled heads?

or

B) is it just an air cooled block and air cooled heads?

Is the 2003 GT3

A) air cooled block, water cooled heads?

or

B) water cooled block and water cooled heads?

The reason I ask is the british mag called GT, which is a Porsceh only mag, had an article on the 1999 GT3 vs an older RS model, and in the specs it listed the GT3 motor as being water cooled.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

Thanks....

Cool

All 996's are water cooled. The GT3 motors, old and probably new therefore are and are related to the block in the TT and GT2. This is different than the block in the std cars, but they do share alot of other parts. The X51 package also shares some GT3 parts.

That block is basically the same as 993 block which is stronger (than 'normal' 996 block) and has dry sump lubrication etc.

Further detail yet...

The engine is very similar to the one used in the GT1 race car with the water cooled heads. It shares the block design with the 964 and 993.
