GT3 question
I went down to my local dealer today to inquire about the new GT3, the price is $139G Cdn
do most ppl think it's worth the money since lookwise it's pretty much the same as a regular 996. It does not seem to me like it's goin' to be a specialty car. Specialty I meant as in only one year of production with very limited#.
Does anyone know if they'll make GT3 for my04 also? I guess what i really care about is the depreciation on the car. Recently, I've lost faith in porsche's ability to keep its value.
Do most think GT3 will be able to keep its value.
Maybe the correct way to ask would be, in another year or two, how much would you pay to buy a used GT3, or would you even consider purchasing one?

Spectra,
My reaction is "if you gotta ask then ..."
For the masses, this car is a complete waste of time. If all you want to do is look good cruising down the highway then forget the GT3. In fact, you'll be really unhappy with it because of the ride. You also might kill yourself without the PSM. If, on the other hand, you understand what's under the sheet metal then you'll realise that there isn't the slightest comparison between the GT3 and the C2.
If you are buying this car as an investment then forget it. New cars aren't an investment. Porsche must continually sell cars to survive and that means continual improvements in the line making whatever you have obsolete.
I do note though that your price of C$139K is well below the cost in the USA. Question for you and others, what are the tax implications of buying a car from a Canadian dealer and then importing it to the USA??? Am I right that these Canadian cars already meet USA Federal standards???

Since I live in Canada, import tax implication or federal regulation does not concern me.
I do realize that GT3 is not just another 996, the engine/tranny/braking/suspension are all top performance for track... and i do know most cars arent investment, however some cars wont depreciate as much. It interests me to see how others see this car, when ppl think of porsche, most consider TURBO to be the one to own, and GT3 sort of is stuck between the turbo and a C2/C4. I have to be honest, in vancouver, the only track that's available is somewhat pathetic, therefore, there arent many ppl who would appreciate cars that will perform on the track.. also, true porsche enthusiasts arent many around out here.. the ones whos got the money would buy the car first hand, and the ones who favour cars more than home would think "well, it looks the same as 996.. so what's the point of paying extra $$"
Specifically, I wanted to find out what the market demand for this type of car could be like
2 years from now.... i guess that's kind of a hard questions to ask since it is based on the future, but, if lets say GT3 was available two years ago, at what premium would one be willing to pay rather than making the decision of stepping into a turbo or settling for a Carrera

just to clear up a thing i said above, what i meant by those who favour car more than home was that some ppl who love porsche but does not have the money will settle for a "lesser" porsche.. some might think what i said does not make sense.. there are those who think owning porsche is a top priority, so instead of driving a BMW, they'll jump to get a porsche than saving the money for a better home or living.. but since there is a limit to how much they can spend, a $55,000 996 could be the choice even if they can get a used 80,000 GT3..
FWIW, I prefer my GT3 to the Turbo hands down. It's an altogether different and more exciting car. While the Turbo's torque is undeniably fantastic, the GT3 is simply a bigger adrenaline pump. Even up here at a 6000 ft elevation (Johannesburg, South Africa) I prefer the GT3 to the Turbo, and keep in mind the GT3 is down some 17% torque/power up here. It just feels and sounds so much more raw than the Turbo.
I wrote a story about a cross-country drive in the GT3 - it describes how fun and exciting the car is:

I absolutely love the GT3 in white. I also think they look great in yellow, but it's just too flashy. I think the new GT3 in Carrara White will be spectacular (mine's Biarritz). And when that engine's howling at 7k rpm, you won't care even if it's pink on the ouside.
